Governor Perry Vetoes SB 1440!

Moments ago I received a phone call from Governor Perry's office to let us know that he will announce shortly that he is going to veto SB 1440. He has heard the outcry from parents all over Texas (and many other parts of the country) and is responding.

Please join me in writing notes and send messages of thanks and appreciation to Governor Perry for this great action on behalf of the children and parents of Texas. The media will be notified shortly, and I'm certain that many will attack the governor for this action. It is important for us to let him know how much we appreciate his response. (Click here to send an e-mail or message to thank Governor Perry.)

Thanks also to the many organizations and activists who raised this issue and who continue to battle against heavy odds to protect children from intrusive and abusive actions by CPS! Thanks to all of you who made calls and sent messages! You made a difference!

Thanks again, Governor Perry!

Dear Tim,
Our family's "thank you" has been sent to the Governor, but we also need to thank you, from the bottom of our hearts - God bless you!

Hi Tim,

Our family and our Church family will be sending our "thank you's" to Governor Perry. I second the previous person ... "THANK YOU" for your hard work on this issue. I know that it has taken a lot of your time and effort but it was worth the effort to protect families across this great state!

I have also thanked our governor and wish to add my thanks to you as well. It is comforting to know that parents have an advocate for our rights. Thank you so much for your dedication and hard work.

This bill SB 1440 was no threat to home schooling. This bill was a clarification of what CPS could or could not do. I won't write Governor Perry a thank you, because I believe children of Texas are now put at risk.

I would like to thank you as one of the family's that has been illegally harrassed by CPS. They took our children illegally and then told lies to cover it up. It almost landed our son in prison due to out cries of rape made by CPS and not by our children. Our girls has told CPS and their psycologist that there was no such occurance and yet they still keep our children. It has been over a year and because we would not sign the paper that stated the lies they have refused to let us see our children.
So again, thank you. The above person is probably a CPS worker.

Thank you THSC! We appreciate your hard work on this. There are ways to protect children w/o punishing responsible and law abiding parents. Now we (both side of the issue) can sit down and figure out EXACTLY how to do this w/o ambushing the lives and rights of innocent families. "Anonymous" June 20, 9:02 PM, I pray you get your precious children back. Have you contacted your senator and/or rep? Did you contact THSC?

Life Time THSC member.

The problem with the wording wasn't that the intention was bad: the wording was unconstituional under both Texas and the Federal Constitution. I suspect he didn't want to have a legal fight when the state agency could write better regulations that would have the same intended effect: making CPS prove to judges both (1) that they actually needed to take the kids before taking them and (2) that they couldn't provide any service(s) to avoid it.

This is great news!

yea yea yea! Jumping up and down about this one! GOd is so good. We have been praying for Gov. Perry to veto this bill.

I agree with the need to write better regulations to have the intended effect: to remove children from homes that warrant it.

My nephews were removed from their mother's home because she was very abusive and suicidal and have now been placed with my brother, but even with all that CPS was very difficult to work with.

Keep up the good work THSC! I am ever grateful for your presence!

Tim, thanks to you and THSC for this victory. I'd marshalled everyone I knew to contact the governor's office and I am so grateful he listened. It was a bad bill and nothing good could have come from it.

Thank you for posting this. Not an activist by nature, when I learned this morning through a yahoo group this bill was in front of Perry, I started posting to m y Facebook. Then found your blog -- how fast the info gets placed on the net!

I sent my thank you letter to Perry. First time in my life that I"ve written to a govenor or congress person.

You should see what they are doing in the UK, and what one Houston chief of police officer suggested (video cameras in homes). Here are the links in case you care to read them.
